Together Through The Storm
When faced with a crisis, I always try to gather my family around me, both for their comfort and mine. Last weekend as the Northeast prepared to get slammed by Sandy, I was grateful to be at home with my loved ones. My son and his girlfriend live in Long Island City and were told to evacuate, so my husband and I went and picked them up, along with their yellow lab, Sampson. We were among the lucky ones who were not directly impacted by Sandy, and we never lost power, so I was able to spend much of the time indoors in the kitchen, where my family often gathers, and where I am always cooking with love. Our doormen were on extended shifts and working tirelessly, so I made a big pot of pasta and brought it down to them… and shared some of the comfort of my kitchen with them as well.
For so many in the tri-state area, the past few days have been completely devastating. I am so aware of how lucky I am. I encourage all of you who can help to do so. People are truly in need and will be for weeks to come.
Here is a list of volunteer groups that you can donate time, supplies, or financial support. I will be spending my weekend cooking for StormChefs, a mobile kitchen bringing culinary relief.
